So often with a preschooler and a toddler I get carried away with trying to get things done quickly and efficiently. The laundry, the errands, etc...that just isn't going to happen all the time, so I have to remind myself that life is too short to rush them, if I just slow down and listen they are hilarious! Also, the kids and my husband are the loves of my life - I need to enjoy them more!

Best advice you have ever received regarding motherhood?
Trust your instincts. Great advice from my Beautiful MOM!!

Worst advice you have ever received regarding motherhood?
'Let them cry when they are babies', 'When they get a little older you have to me more careful', - but, I don't believe in letting them cry as infants!

You are a mother of two young boys and you started your own business. What piece of advice do you have for women out there trying to juggle family and work, be it part-time or full-time?
With starting my own business I just had to go for it! If you find something you really want to do, it will all work out in the end! Trying to plan for it to happen only stressed me out. Finally I just started working at it and letting people know what I do! From there it all fell into place!

We had a great time at Hautemommas' Night Out at Laser Perfect!

We indulged in chair massages, makeup application, paraffin hand dips, wine and hors d'oeuvres. The fabulously knowledgable, friendly and fun staff at Laser Perfect educated us on lots of breakthrough treatments, procedures and products in aesthetics.

Many got botox and tried the new laser treatment to diminsh signs of sun damage...stay tuned for a review of this as we see results in a few days!

Celeb Sighting!
As many of you know Larry Birkhead, father of Dannielynn (daughter of Anna Nicole Smith), celebrated her 1st birthday in Louisville on Saturday.

We saw Larry at 4th Street Live later that night. It was weird because he didn't have some big posse with him or 'protection'. We always think 'anyone that's anyone' will have bodyguards, guess not. He is much skinnier and looks much younger than I thought he would, but handsome.

Craig Stevenson, owner of True candles sold at Neiman Marcus and Louisville native, was out and about Saturday night. Be watching for an interview with him soon!....how haute is he! Click here for Springfield Sun article.

Fashion Week Kicks Off

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City begins today. 60-plus designers will show off their spring 2008 collections in the tents at Bryant Park, with dozens more sending their styles down runways throughout the city.

Trend forecaster David Wolfe says, "It's a clean-up campaign," Thankfully, he predicts that new fashions will be "not as flashy and not as vulgar as we've seen in the recent past -- fewer clothes for Britney and Paris Hilton, more for grown-up women," he said.

Designer Carmen Marc Valvo agreed. "It's going to be very polished," he said, "cleaner, more put together and a little more refined."

Silhouettes will get leaner, according to Designer Tracy Reese. "Things will get closer to the body," she said.

We can't wait to see Michael Kors, Ports 1961, DVF, Malandrino, Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen and Mulberry's lines. Check back this week for updates and let us know whose lines you are looking most forward to!

Favorite gift to give?
Anything made locally or by hand. I recently found a friend a gift at the Woodland Art Fair--perfect because it wasone-of-a-kind and not mass produced.

What's in your beauty bag?
Three different lip liners and a sharpener(from Origins, Aveda, and The Body Shop), two different shades of pinkgloss, a neutral Arbonne lipstick, a powder compact, four hair clips, Band-Aids, Burt's Bees cuticle creme (my cuticles would look better if I'd use it rather than just carry it around), my emergency container (with bobby pins, pain relievers, lozenges, and safety pins), two nailfiles, and Trident gum (original flavor, in case anyone's wondering).

Favorite hotel (local or not)?
I haven't been to one yet but aspire to spend a couple nights in a Four Seasons someday.

Cocktail of choice?
I do like cocktails, including raspberry martinis, but really good Pinot Noir is my favorite alcoholic beverage.

Style advice?
I'm really not the person to give style advice, although there do seem to be a lot more don'ts around than dos to take to heart. I'll just say I think it's better to blend in than stand out for the wrong reason when style is concerned.

What is style?
Although I work in words, that is a tough one to define.

What is at the top of your style / wardrobe wish list?
A brand new non-maternity outfit!
Beyond that, I'd love to find a snazzy fitted pink winter coat, but not sure I'm brave enough to pull it off. (HMS thinks she is - go for it!)

Favorite Mantra?
Commit yourself to constant self improvement.

What would be your first step to making Lexington, KY more eco-friendly?
First--getting local businesses, especially those that serve lots of items in plastic or glass containers to actually recycle, rather than throw away, those items. That drives me crazy! Hearing a trash can full of glass bottles being dumped into a garbage truck headed for the landfill. Ugh. Second--encourage everyone who has cityservices to actually use their Rosie.

If you could interview anyone for your publication, who would it be and why?
Linda Bruckheimer (wife of Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer).
They have a home in rural Kentucky and have invested a lot of time,money, and effort into the local economy, but apparently are not eagerto talk about it to the press.

You are very environmentally conscious, what are your favorite eco-friendly brands/products?
I love Burt's Bees and I'm thrilled to see it turn up in mainstream stores. I am a big fan of Seventh Generation and ecover household cleaning products. I also really like Preserve products. They work with Stonyfield Farm to use recycled yogurt cups to make toothbrushes, reusable razors, and even plastic cutlery and tableware (instead of paper for picnics, large parties, or kids). If you order their razors online, they even send you a postage-paid envelope to return them to the company when you are done so they will recycle them again. I love that!

Red lips are sexy and classic.

Line lips with a waterproof lip liner such as Aqua Lip #9C ($16.00) to create definition and to keep lipstick put. It seems like there have been so many fab new products launched recently. Here are some favorites that have become permanent additions to my regime:

Estee Lauder Idealist miraculously shrinks the appearance of pores...Really. Skin looks and feels so much smoother and is less congested (read: fewer breakouts). This in the morning over my Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic plus Retin-A Micro at night are my cure for sun damage. None of this is all that inexpensive, but you only have one face and skincare is not the place to scrimp.

Laura Mercier Lip Stain provides the visual effect of a stain with the comfort and sheen of a lip gloss. Perfect on its own at the gym or to drop the kids at school, even better over a layer of lipliner (filled in) applied with a lipbrush.

Fiberwig Mascara thickens like nobody's business...without clumps. The name "Fiberwig" scared me...but the product and its applicator proved me wrong...amazing!

ghd Thermal Protector for Weak Damaged Hair makes all the difference when flat ironing. It absorbs heat and deflects damage, leaving hair smooth and shiny...not crunchy.

This great, now annual, event started four years ago and is now a huge success! Grape Expectations is not only a fun night of drinking wine!, but it benefits a wonderful cause. My husband and I try to attend each year and since last year we have become an ongoing event sponsor.

The Lexington Charity Club, Urban League Young Professionals, Lexington Young Professionals Association, UK College of Law- Student Bar Association and the Fayette County Bar Association – Young Lawyers Section have joined together to present the 4th Grape Expectations!

Proceeds from this event benefit Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky.
PCAK is Kentucky’s only statewide child abuse prevention organization.

Grape Expectations is a competitive wine tasting event, where teams of four bring a total four bottles of wine. Three of the four bottles of wine are presented for tasting and judged on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best. The winning team will take home the unopened fourth bottles of wine. The team with the lowest score, however, takes home their fourth bottle of wine.

To attend this event, the cost is a donation of $10 per person at the door. In addition to the wine tasting, there will also be a silent and live auction from 7:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m., with the opportunity to bid on items such as Lexington Legends tickets, event passes and much more.

Mod Boutique was the haute place to be last night...we packed the store!

Thanks to Heather Morris for the generous discount, we snatched up some amazing new clothes for Fall...

Jeans from True Religion, William Rast, Chip & Pepper, and more..."Go Out" tops from Susana Monaco & Sweetees. Cute dresses, haute shoes and handbags (Hype, Naughty Monkey, Sam Edelman)...jewelry, and lots more (even some great pieces for the guys)!

All while enjoying wine and yummy treats from Belle's Bakery! Of course, we all had a blast chatting and trying on...and everyone left with our fabulous goodie bag full of haute stuff and a generous discount on services from Be Medispa!

Marc Jacobs

"Maybe nerd is the new groovy,” Marc Jacobs told Simon Doonan in an upcoming article for the September issue of Glamour Magazine.

Nerd or not, we think Marc's designs are young, fun, and chic.

His new documentary, Louis Vuitton & Marc Jacobs, is set to be released on September 5th and will feature a peek at a Tokyo Press Conference, and inside look at the Louis Vuitton factory and behind-the-scenes access to his party at New York's Fashion Week.

Jacobs' latest offering...the Happy-Meal inspired Little Marc Box is a limited edition including a one-piece otufit/jammies and bear emblazoned with the phrase, "Marc Who?"...housed in a McDonald's-esque carton. Only 1,000 will be available beginning August 27 at Parisian retailer, Colette.

His newest fragrance, Daisy, launches in London with "Scratch and Sniff" windows...and you can log on to his members-only website to learn more about the scent at Daisymarcjacobs.com. Global warming is being felt by our generation. Polar bears are starving! Our children are going to pay the price if we don't change. We need to drive fuel efficient cars, change our light bulbs to compact fluorescent and use less heat and air conditioning!

e.l.f Cosmetics Now Available in KY and IN

e.l.f. - eyes, lips, face - cosmetics are now sold in Kmart stores in certain parts of the U.S. Louisville KMart and a few in IN have started carrying it...so sit tight and if you 'fancy' this line of makeup it will soon be in a store near you!...no more shipping fees.

HMS doesn't think it is the hautest line of cosmetics, but it is very reasonably priced. We really liked the glosses, blushers, brushes, brightening eye liners and lipsticks. We were not fans of the eyeshadows, mascara or foundations (hydro tint), but the concealer isn't bad.

The store currently known as RAVE in Fayette Mall is becoming Max Rave by the end of August! This bag has caused real excitement for those in New York and many Asian cities. The story behind the bag is very interesting. (So are the riots that have been caused by those trying to purchase one).

The profits are going to an amazing cause, so knowing that makes the bag more appealing to me. We Are What We Do is the organization that approached Anya. The big controversy now is the question is being asked, Are those fighting for and buying the bag actually supporting the cause?
